Introduction
The University of Hamburg has been recognised as a flagship university and University of Excellence within Germany and is the largest institution of its kind in the northern region of the country. Its main campus is located in the centre of Hamburg, with additional locations in other districts such as the DESY research centre in the western part of the city. The university has over 42,000 students enrolled and employs over 15,000 staff members, including over 700 professors and over 5,000 research associates. Among its institutions, the university includes 8 faculties, 27 departments and 4 clusters of excellence, along with numerous research centres and groups.

Travel to the campus from the airport:
- A taxi ride from the airport to the main campus and administrative buildings takes about 25 minutes.
- Visitors can also travel with public transport by taking the S1 from the airport to Hauptbahnhof (central station) and transferring there to the S2 or S5 to Dammtor. The travel time is about 30 minutes.
Travel to the campus from the central train station:
- From Hauptbahnhof (central station), visitors can take the S2 or S5 to Dammtor. Travel time is only about 5 minutes. Alternatively, visitors can take the U1 to Stephansplatz or take one of the buses (such as line 19) to Fontenay.
