This EUGLOH program supports doctoral researchers through a focused, one-week intensive training designed to develop key competencies essential for a successful academic career as well as for diverse professional fields beyond academia. It offers the opportunity to unlock your potential as a researcher and future professional.

A PhD requires a significant amount of effort: it involves long-term, independent research focused on making an original contribution to a scientific field. Yet, a PhD also comes with a considerable chance to make an impact beyond your field – be it in a political, educational, cultural, economic, or social dimension.

The program encourages you to reflect on the competencies acquired during your PhD. It explores ways to communicate your work effectively and strengthen your academic and professional profile. By participating, you will learn how to present your research with confidence to diverse audiences and potential partners, both within and outside the academic world. You will have the opportunity to build valuable networks across disciplines and borders and to develop strategies for (academic) career development and societal contribution.

Join us to enhance your skills, gain new insights, and increase your confidence to make a meaningful impact in the field of global health.

Activities and Learning Objectives

  • Train your pitch: Develop your presentation skills and learn to tailor your message effectively, enhancing your public speaking and outreach abilities.
  • Engage with diverse stakeholders: Learn strategies to get in touch and cooperate with a wider range of publics.
  • Enhance your media skills: Practice handling media interactions, including interview techniques, and adopting different perspectives.
  • Build your professional profile: Reflect on the skills and competencies acquired during your PhD journey and explore career planning strategies to facilitate your transition into the job market.

This activity is organized by the University of Hamburg in collaboration with the University of Porto and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.

  • Registration is open for early-career researchers affiliated with a university in the EUGLOH network.
  • Please submit a brief CV (up to 2 pages) along with a short motivation letter (maximum 200 words). Explain why you are personally interested in participating in the program and provide a brief outline of how your research project aligns with the EUGLOH focus areas.
  • Successful applicants will receive funding from EUGLOH to cover travel expenses, accommodation costs, and daily allowances, if applicable. Contact your local EUGLOH office for more information and to organize your travel.

To ensure a balanced number of participants among the EUGLOH partners, quotas may be allocated to individual partners. This depends on the number of applications received and the regulations set by each university.
