Aiming to foster excellent research, tackle societal challenges and boost innovation in Europe, the European Union (EU) provides multiple funding opportunities for various target groups: be it individual scientists – at different stages of their career – or large-scale collaborative research teams.

The so called “Framework Programme for Research and Innovation” sets the financial, political and legal frame for the different individual funding schemes, which cover a wide array of thematic fields. With the current Framework Programme “Horizon 2020” still running until the end of this year, the EU has invested nearly €80 billion of funding into research and innovation activities over the past seven years. And the next, presumably even bigger programme “Horizon Europe” is already casting a shadow.

Subject & Speakers

This webinar series seeks to give an introduction to relevant EU programmes for educational and research project funding (e.g. individual grants, mobility grants, collaborative projects), while also providing practical tips on how to turn an idea into a successful project proposal and looking into strategies to maximise the impact of your research.

The series consists of four individual online modules taking place as lunch-time webinars during a two-weeks period starting on Tuesday, 22 September 2020, and ending on Wednesday, 30 September 2020 - further information on the focus of each session can be found below under "Programme". We recommend you join us for all four of our “lunchtime learning” sessions, but you are also free to sign up for individual courses.

For this online training series LMU has teamed up with experts from the European Research and Project Office GmbH (EURICE), one of Germany’s largest project management and technology consultancy offices for R&I projects. Bringing together more than 50 experts from various scientific and professional fields, the team has an extensive track record in providing support services to researchers and innovative companies through the entire life cycle of a project – from the first idea to successful communication and impactful exploitation of project outcomes.

Participants will receive a certificate of participation.

  • Report

From 22-30 September, the webinar series on EU Funding Programmes was implemented at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich) in the form of four individual online modules taking place as lunch-time webinars. With the aim of giving an introduction to relevant EU programmes for educational and research project funding as well as providing practical tips on writing successful project proposal , experts from the European Research and Project Office GmbH (EURICE), shared their extensive knowledge of EU funding programmes with students and researches from the five EUGLOH partner universities. About 150 students and researches participated in one or more lunchtime webinar with over 100 participants in each session. They received an introduction on Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programme structures and rules as well as an overview on individual and collaborative funding opportunities. They also learning how to transfer their research ideas into competitive funding proposals and how to structure the different sections of their proposal. Furthermore, they got an idea of effective outreach strategies and communication tools in order to maximise the impact of their research and innovation projects. Overall, the webinar series generated a lot of interest and informal feedback and satisfaction surveys showed that participants were very satisfied with the learning outcomes. On a scale from 1-10 (being the lowest number and 10 being the highest), they rated the event with an average of 7.8 points and 90% of the participants in the course evaluation would recommend the event to others. One participant from University of Porto stated: “It was a pleasure to participate in the webinar because it was a great opportunity to learn a little more about EU Funding Programmes. We must congratulate LMU Munich for the excellent organisation, I believe that all colleagues enjoyed participating in this course marked by the quality of the speakers and contents.”
