The German University Rectors' Conference sees the development of European higher education networks as an important initiative that holds considerable potential for the future-oriented development of European higher education systems.
"If the program for the creation of European university networks is to be a success, the universities involved must be seen and promoted as a whole including educational, research, innovation and cultural institutions by the European Union," said the President of the German University Rectors' Conference, Prof. Dr. Peter-André Alt.
“In times of growing nationalism, all of these initiatives can contribute to a positive perception of Europe and sustainable networking in the European higher education area. Thanks to their multilateral relationships, the universities also contribute to productive coexistence within Europe where cooperation on a political level has become more difficult.”
“However, the participating universities must be able to develop their respective strengths. Excessively detailed requirements from the EU Directorates General for Education and Research involved would be counterproductive. Strong and productive networks can only be built with freely and creatively acting institutions. "
