Are you interested in health from a global perspective? In this online course you will explore health and its relationship with global development. By highlighting the roles of different professions working with global health the course emphasises the importance of applying a multidisciplinary approach to global health research and practice.

For a long time, global health promotion work has taken place in silos, where the health sector has been seen as the central actor in health promotion work. The course is given asynchronously online with opportunities discussion and exchange in arranged digital sessions. The course is conveyed through recorded lectures and instructed self-studies, as well as written discussions where your participation is expected. During the course we will cover five areas:

  • Introduction to global health.
  • Global health and sustainable development.
  • Perspectives on global health.
  • Working with global health.
  • Collaboration for global health.

As a student on this course you should have a genuine interest in global health. Maybe you currently have the ambition to, work with global health. We welcome students from different disciplines, and you do not have to have a background in health sciences.Through the assignments in the course you will have the opportunity to further explore topics you are interested in, and through the discussions you are contributing to the learning of other students.

Learning objectives

The health of the world population and the opportunities and challenges for health promotion for individuals and groups are affected by the complex social and economic developments in the world. In addition, we are facing unprecedented climate change and environmental impacts that also have an impact on the health of populations.

The SDGs emphasize the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration and cooperation to ensure positive global development in the three areas of economic, social and environmental sustainability. This course seeks to strengthen the application of multidisciplinary perspectives on global health.

Requirements

The course is aimed for students with an interest in working in global health, regardless of previous educational background.

  • Selection strategy: A bachelor degree in any field of study is a prerequisite. A statement of purpose must be handed in.
  • Number of participants: 50.
  • Certificate/ECTS: 7,5 ECTS.
  • Language: English.

Please note that a scholarship for travel and subsistence is included for participants. More information on travel arrangements, accommodation etc. will be sent to accepted students. (LU students participating in the course will not receive the scholarship.)
