BUILDING EUROPE’S CAMPUS FOR GLOBAL HEALTH

EUGLOH’s Focus Areas describe the alliance’s thematic profile in global health and reflect Global Health key themes:
- Health in Living Contexts: Urban and Rural Health
- Sustainability and Biodiversity
- Resilience and Disaster Preparedness
- Digital Health, AI & Medical Technology
Focus Areas are built on EUGLOH’s shared understanding of global health as a highly interdisciplinary concept. In the alliance’s perspective, addressing global health challenges requires concerted action and development in education, research, innovation and service to society directed at equitable health for humans and for the ecosystems in which they live. This concept of global health addresses all subject areas – including but not limited to human and veterinary medicine, natural sciences, life sciences, data sciences, engineering, arts, humanities and social sciences.
As such, Focus Areas represent broad and interdisciplinary key themes in global health to provide overall and long-term thematic orientation for EUGLOH’s activities and projects in education, research, innovation, and service to society. Focus Areas guide identification and anticipation of Global Health challenges to seek innovative, interdisciplinary, transnational solutions. They unite and foster fundamental expertise in (basic) research and training of the next generation of global health experts. To do so, they reflect the strength and expertise of all alliance members and are rooted in the full breadth of all disciplines.
Each Focus Area addresses specific, challenge-oriented perspectives and opportunities related to its key theme. At the same time, the Focus Areas are deeply interconnected, reflecting the inherently interdisciplinary nature of Global Health. They span social, political, economic, cultural, historical, ecological, and technological dimensions, uniting fundamental and applied research in human, animal, and plant health, along with related fields.
