BUILDING EUROPE’S CAMPUS FOR GLOBAL HEALTH

Digital Health, AI & Medical Technology

The Digital Health, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Medical Technology Focus Area integrates cutting-edge digital and medical technologies with global health. It spans a broad spectrum of developments, covering the use of big data and AI – ranging from health analytics to personalized diagnostics, treatments, and support applications, for example in oncology or mental health – digital health tools, such as telemedicine, mobile health (mHealth), and wearable technologies, as well as robotics in healthcare, for example in elderly care, surgery, or rehabilitation. It addresses both the opportunities and challenges associated with the integration of these technologies into healthcare systems including safeguarding data privacy and ownership, ensuring algorithmic transparency and fairness, navigating ethical and legal frameworks, and promoting equitable access and responsible use of digital health solutions among healthcare providers and patients.

It encompasses fundamental and applied research and education to foster a comprehensive under-standing of healthcare technologies, medical conditions, and well-being, along with their ethical, le-gal, and societal implications. The focus area supports innovation in disease risk assessment, diagnostics, treatment, and patient monitoring – ranging from early outbreak prediction to health policy planning and the lifelong training of health professionals.
