BUILDING EUROPE'S CAMPUS FOR GLOABL HEALTH
As the world’s northernmost university, UiT-The Arctic University of Norway is strategically placed to develop and disseminate knowledge about the Arctic and the High North. The university will use insights from its disciplines as a basis for contributing to the development in its region: its goal is to be the preferred partner for trade, industry and civil society, and to remove barriers and create arenas that enhance co-creation and innovation – across disciplines, sectors and borders.
Structure and Support Mechanisms
- Norinnova, a TTO co-owned by UiT: One of Northern Norway’s largest hubs of expertise for developing ideas from research and innovation.
- UiT Talentand Aurora Outstanding: UiT's talent support programmes that include tools for innovation and project proposals for external funding.
- High North Academy and Changing Arctic research school: Organise intensive PhD courses in transferable skills, including Academic Entrepreneurship, Leadership Skills, Data Stewardship and Sustainability Science.
- Innovation websites: Information regarding innovation and entrepreneurship at UiT.
- Collaboration Portal (in Norwegian): An entry portal for anyone interested in collaborating with UiT, at any level.
Facilities and Resources
- Innovation lab: to be implemented spring 2025
- Student IX: Norinnovas incubator for students
- Tromsø Science park: A central arena for sustainable development and growth in Northern Norway. The science park houses a broad knowledge environment, with UiT as one of its many tenants
Partnerships and Collaboration Models
- Industry mentors (in Norwegian): To strengthen the collaboration between regional industry, the university and its students. Co-organised with the three northernmost counties.
- Ungt Entreprenørskap Arktis (in Norwegian): UiT collaborates with Ungt Entreprenørskap (Young Entrepreneurship) in delivering courses in innovation and entrepreneurial skills for its students.
Impact and Success Stories
- Co-internship (Sampraksis, in Norwegian): A MOOC for industry partners in the internship programme for BA in fishery sciences at UiT. The goal of the MOOC is to ensure quality and payoff for the students, the industry partners and UiT. The target group is both leaders and supervisors in the industry partners.
