BUILDING EUROPE’S CAMPUS FOR GLOBAL HEALTH
Founded in the early 16th Century, Alcalá was the world’s first planned University City. It was the original model for the ideal urban community that Spanish culture brought to the Americas, and served as model for universities in Europe and elsewhere. Today, with 22,000 students and 3,000 staff, including over 2,200 academic staff and researchers, 9 Faculties and Schools, 3 campuses and 10 research institutes, Alcalá is a globally connected comprehensive and research-oriented mid-size university with deep humanistic roots.
Located in the city of Alcalá de Henares, around 30 kilometers from Madrid, and even closer to its main international airport, the University remains a world benchmark for the teaching of Spanish language and culture. The harmonious combination of university life in a small city with the offer of a vibrant European capital such as Madrid only adds to Alcalá’s worldwide recognised capacity for attracting international students to its classrooms.
Many students and staff call Alcalá home, giving the city a unique buzz, while its proximity to the inspiring Spanish capital, Madrid, creates an irresistible blend of history, natural beauty, and modern city life. Our clubs and societies help students and staff develop their interests, meet like-minded people, indulge in a hobby or simply socialize. Moreover, whether recreational gym-users or performance athletes, our sport facilities, services and support can cater to each of them.
The University of Alcalá offers a range of facilities and support to our undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, teachers and administrative staff, while our exchange programmes let them pursue their studies or gain further professional skills and immerse themselves in new cultural experiences.
As a comprehensive university and an influential body in civil society, the University aims at providing students not only with the skills that will allow them to easily join the labour market, but also with the requisite groundwork to be integral to research and development and firm-based innovation.
The University of Alcalá also pays particular attention to a solid acquisition of academic knowledge, transversal skills and critical thinking in an interdisciplinary and international environment, thus preparing our graduates to create cohesive and tolerant communities.
