BUILDING EUROPE’S CAMPUS FOR GLOBAL HEALTH
Sustainability and Biodiversity investigates the intricate relationships of human, animal, and plant health with environmental changes, ecosystem dynamics, and associated risks and opportunities. Given the ongoing and accelerating biodiversity loss and climate crisis, this focus area explores the multifaceted connections between ecological integrity and health, advances research to foster disease prevention, ecosystem conservation and resilience against emerging global health challenges. It investigates the influence of public policy, global governance, and communication in shaping sustainable health responses and behavioural change and covers aspects of environmental justice.
This theme encompasses both fundamental and applied studies on environmental and ecological shifts, the sustainable use of natural resources, climate-resilient healthcare systems, and the health implications of environmental stressors, including the emergence and progression of infectious and non-communicable diseases. It promotes eco-friendly healthcare practices, deepens our understanding of disease ecology, informs evidence-based public health strategies, and fosters to the development sustainable solutions for global health.
