This 7,5 ECTS course offers students an introduction to e-health by introducing basic concepts and discribing how added value can be created in health care processes by the use of e-health systems. The course also provides knowledge about process analysis and information security in health care as well as an overview of current e-health research.

The course provides basic knowledge on the topic of e-health from an information systems perspective and includes:

  • An introduction to information systems in health care, including an overview of current systems, a historic view of e-health and the connection between healthcare processes and information systems.
  • Process analysis, requirements handling and evaluation of information systems in health care.
  • Information security in health care.
  • Current research topics and trends within e-health.
  • The creation of a prestudy for implementation of an e-health system

The course consists of six mandatory synchronous online seminars, recorded online lectures, quizzes, case-based learning and written online assignments. Students in the course come from multiple countries and educational backgrounds, even though studies in information systems and healthcare disciplines such as nursing and medicine are the most common backgrounds of the participants.

The vast majority of the course work is performed in groups, normally of four students. It is important to be prepared for this and to accept and respect good principles of group work. Communication and collaboration in the course groups is essential. The course gives 7.5 credits in the discipline of information systems.

Content and Methodology

By the end of this course, students will be able to recognize the diverse backgrounds of their peers and understand the importance of collaboration in group work, particularly in interdisciplinary contexts. They will develop effective communication skills for group projects and demonstrate respect for diverse perspectives within group settings, while preparing to work in groups of four for course assignments. Through practical experience, they will experinece the significance of communication and collaboration in achieving course objectives, evaluate personal contributions to group projects, and gain an understanding of the principles of information systems.

All undergraduate and master's students from a EUGLOH university are eligible for the course. There are no specific requirements, students from all disciplines are welcome. Ideally, participants should be interested in e-health and information systems.

The selection is based on the statement of purpose.
