Human activities often result in waste generation, as everything we produce or consume eventually contributes to generation of waste streams. Effectively managing waste streams is crucial for promoting sustainability, reducing pollution, conserving resources, and mitigating climate change. Agro-industrial wastes and by-products generated during the industrial processing of agricultural crops (Brewing industry, sugar industry, confectionery industry) are low-cost resources available in large quantities throughout the year.

Among waste streams, municipal and industrial wastewater are known as pollution sources of numerous chemicals in the environment, inevitably leading to the vulnerability of water resources, including drinking water sources, and to known or suspected health risks.

This two-day workshop should awaken and expand students' interest in waste management. Through lectures and training, students will have the opportunity to interactively learn about sources of waste and possible solutions for their utilization. There is a thin line between waste and by-products, which leads directly to its utilization and circular economy.

Training will be organized through two visits and work on:

  • Mini brewery
  • Pilot plant for the production of confectionery products
