ECC EUGLOH Cultural Corridor - Exploring Medical History in Spain: A Journey Through the 16th and 17th Centuries at the Golden Century Medicine Museum
Alcalá de Henares

Medicine was one of the main disciplines that developed in the university city of Alcalá de Henares starting in the 16th century. This guided tour, which begins at the Hospital de Antezana, the first modern university hospital in Europe, will take you through the most important places for the study and development of medicine during Spain's Golden Age (16th and 17th Centuries).
The tour will be starting at the entrance of the Hospital, and it will give the visitors acces to all the ancient rooms of the Hospital (womens nursery, the garden of the apothecary, the rooms of the interns, the kitchen and the two chapels that the building holds on the inside). During the tour, the visitors will be able to get a sense of the huge impact that the Hospital had, not only regarding the development of new techniques and methodologies for treating and studying the patients and their illneses, but also the social labour that the Hospital, and the members of the brotherhood that took care of it, generated for the citizens of Alcalá de Henares.
Meeting point: Hospital de Antezana. C. Mayor, 46, 28801 Alcalá de Henares, Madrid
The activity is free of charge for local and international students of the University of Alcalá.
EUGLOH Cultural Corridor (ECC) opportunities are exclusively targeted at participants already located at the hosting institution. Please note that travel and mobility-associated costs are not covered for these activities.
