Concrete is a ubiquitous material that is essential for the functioning of modern societies. In this course, you will learn how concrete can be used to support a circular economy and a sustainable society.

This course introduces advanced concepts and practical skills for designing prefabricated concrete structures that promote healthy, sustainable, and resilient built environments.

Students will learn to apply structural mechanics, design codes, and innovative engineering practices to create durable and eco-friendly solutions for global challenges in urban development. Emphasis is placed on integrating sustainability principles with technical design to support healthier communities and reduce environmental impact.

Content and Methodology

The sessions in the webinar will be asynchronous.

Pedagogical Approach:

  • Assignments and flipped classroom learning method
  • Online lectures (over approximately six weeks)
  • Problem-based learning
  • Video examples

Assessment of Participants

Students will submit two assignments for evaluation. The assignments should be submitted individually. Additionally, there will be homework assignments and quizzes following the tutorials to assess students' progress.

Students will be assessed based on a series of assignments centred on problem-solving. The assessment is student-oriented, inviting students to identify, formulate, and solve practical design problems independently.

Assessment will focus on students’ ability to solve assignments effectively.

After completing the course, the participants will receive recognition in the form of 5 ECTS credits.

Selection Strategy

  • The webinar is open for Bachelor, Master & PhD students
  • Prior knowledge in engineering design is a requirement.
  • Candidates must have a satisfactory background in the built environment and/or civil engineering.
