This webinar revolves around service-learning, an educational philosophy rooted in community service that transcends methodological labels to become a particular way of understanding the teaching-learning process, one that emphasizes meaningful, transformative experiences and their impact on student development, community relationships, and social progress. Participants will be introduced to the principles underlying Service Learning Methodology, its benefits and challenges, and how this methodology can be applied to very diverse topics and disciplines.

The session will begin with an exploration of the foundational principles and unique qualities of service-learning. Following this, speakers will explain successful Service Learning projects in different academic fields. To conclude, they will provide practical advice to inspire discussion and guide a closing round of questions. All in all, this talk merges exhaustive research with personal insights, aiming to deepen participants' understanding of service-learning and encourage impactful, cross-cutting initiatives in higher education.

The spearkers are professor Bruno Echauri Galván (University of Alcalá), assistant professor Sofia Castanheira Pais (UPorto) and assistant researcher Teresa Silva Días (UPorto). The webinar is moderated by profesor Lorena Silos (University of Alcalá).

In the Spotlight on Education series, two EUGLOH partners share their experiences and challenges in education. The webinars are interactive and the participants are encouraged to bring their perspectives to the discussion. The webinar will be recorded and made available on the EUGLOH YouTube channel.
