6th EUGLOH Annual Student Research Conference Showcases Outstanding Young Research

This year’s edition brought together participants from eight partner universities of the Alliance: University of Paris-Saclay (France), Lund University (Sweden), University of Szeged (Hungary), Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität München (Germany), University of Alcalá (Spain), University of Novi-Sad (Serbia) and University of Hamburg (Germany).
The opening session on 22 October featured welcome remarks from Francisco Cruz, academic leader of EUGLOH’s working group dedicated to research-based learning. He underlined the importance of connecting clinical and translational research as “essential for the advancement of science and medicine”.
The morning programme focused on this articulation through three roundtable sessions centred on Oncology, Cardiology and Neuroengineering.
The second day of the event featured the final oral sessions, with presentations across biomedical sciences, social sciences and public health.
In the afternoon, the workshop “Student-led Research & Innovation for Global Health” offered an interactive, student-centred space highlighting research and innovation pathways developed within the Alliance. Through shared experiences and thematic discussions, the session celebrated the role of young researchers and encouraged active engagement in shaping the future of research and Global Health.
The third and final day was dedicated to poster sessions, enabling the exchange of ideas between students and jury members on methodologies, results and research challenges.
Over three days, the conference, which included 19 oral presentations and 16 posters, featured a panel of 13 jury members, composed by teachers and researchers from the University of Porto, the University Paris-Saclay, the University of Alcalá and the University of Hamburg.
Among the distinguished works in the oral sessions of this edition, the following stood out: Subhajit Dutta (“Leading Edge Mitochondrial Dynamics Orchestrate Metastatic Migration”), from the University of Hamburg; Luna Soares (“Adverse Childhood Experiences and Pubertal Development in the Generation XXI cohort”), from the University of Porto; and Johanna Keuschnig (“Safety and tolerability of a single day artesunate-pyronaridine plus sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria in adults and children”), also from the University of Hamburg.
In the poster category, the winners were Bárbara Nunes (“Revolutionizing Radiobiology: 3D Models for Breast Cancer Research”) and Miguel Seixas Carvalho de Sousa (“The Move Air Project”), both from the University of Porto.
The conference also included guided tours to RISE-HEALTH, to I3S and to UPTEC, providing participants with direct contact with University of Porto's research, innovation, and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The sixth EUGLOH Annual Student Research Conference reinforced its role as a privileged space for scientific exchange, communication skill development and the strengthening of international collaboration among researchers across the EUGLOH Alliance.
