EUGLOH 2Plus: Building on Success with Continued EU Support
As part of this next phase—called “EUGLOH 2Plus”—the Alliance will build on previous achievements and move toward deeper institutional integration beyond project-based cooperation. The initiative aims to embed shared structures, methods, and a lasting culture of collaboration across participating universities.
A key development in this new phase is the joining of the University of Amsterdam, which will become a full member of the Alliance beginning with this extension period, further expanding EUGLOH’s opportunities for collaboration in research, education and innovation across Europe.
The core actions of EUGLOH 2Plus will focus on training future-ready professionals equipped to address global health challenges through interdisciplinary expertise and transversal skills. It also aims to develop a truly transnational campus model—multilingual, multicultural, and inclusive—linking universities across Europe into a shared academic space. In parallel, the Alliance will continue addressing major societal challenges in global health through collaboration across education, research, innovation, and service to society. The Alliance will continue to expand its international partnerships, fostering collaboration beyond Europe in support of its mission.
The two-year extension is designed to bridge the current Erasmus+ programming period and the next multiannual EU budget cycle beginning in 2028. It will allow successful European Universities Alliances to maintain momentum while adapting to evolving EU higher education priorities.
“We are thrilled by the positive results”, said Courtney Peltzer-Hönicke, Head of International Affairs at the University of Hamburg, on behalf of the EUGLOH 2026 Presiding University. “But what I find even more thrilling is that during the EUGLOH Governing Board Meeting in June, our Rectors affirmed their commitment to the continuation of this Alliance regardless of the outcome of the call”, she added.
EUGLOH’s Secretary-General, Emily Helmeid, welcomed the decision, saying: “This renewed funding allows us not only to continue our work, but to scale it up. With EUGLOH 2Plus, we are embedding European cooperation more deeply into everyday academic and scientific life of our campuses, thereby strengthening the long-term impact of our Alliance.”
With confirmed support for 2027–2028, EUGLOH is set to continue playing a central role in the European Universities Initiative, contributing to a more integrated, collaborative, and competitive European Higher Education Area.
