EUGLOH and the Institut Pasteur Formalise Strategic Partnership to Strengthen Global Health Education and Research

The European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH) and the Institut Pasteur have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant step in the Alliance’s strategy to deepen cooperation with leading scientific institutions. Through this agreement, the Institut Pasteur becomes the first official Core Partner of EUGLOH, reinforcing a shared commitment to advancing global health education, research and innovation at the European and international levels.

The signature of this MoU comes at a pivotal moment for EUGLOH, as the Alliance prepares its application for its next project phase of the European Universities Initiative (2027–2028). In this context, the involvement of external partners with strong scientific and societal impact is a key asset of the Alliance. Core Partners are expected to be deeply embedded in the Alliance’s activities and to contribute across multiple dimensions of the EUGLOH Knowledge Square. The Institut Pasteur’s integration as a Core Partner reflects both the maturity of existing collaborations and the strategic importance of this partnership for the Alliance’s future development.

“The formalisation of this partnership with the Institut Pasteur represents a major milestone for EUGLOH. As the Alliance gets ready to enter a new phase of consolidation and scaling, cooperation with globally recognised scientific partners such as Institut Pasteur is essential to strengthening our impact in education, research, and innovation in Global Health,“ said Courtney Peltzer-Hönicke, University of Hamburg, on behalf of the EUGLOH Presiding Party.

The MoU establishes a framework for long-term cooperation between EUGLOH and the Institut Pasteur, covering joint research activities, educational initiatives, academic and staff exchanges, and the development of joint programmes. Among the potential concrete perspectives identified is the development of a mobility programme for Bachelor and Master students or graduates wishing to pursue a PhD in life science and health, fostering clinician-scientist profiles capable of bridging research and medical practice.

„Joining EUGLOH as a Core Partner fully aligns with the Institut Pasteur’s strategic plan and its commitment to education, international collaboration, and capacity building. EUGLOH and the Institut Pasteur share common values and scientific strategies in addressing public health threats. Through this partnership, we aim to build stronger bridges between research, education, and innovation, and to contribute our expertise to training the next generation of scientists and health professionals across Europe,“ said Monica Sala, Vice President for Education at Institut Pasteur.

This agreement builds on existing interactions between the Institut Pasteur and several EUGLOH member universities, as well as on broader collaboration between EUGLOH and the Pasteur Network. The formalisation of the partnership now provides a stable framework to scale up these initiatives and develop new joint actions. This partnership will therefore strengthen each institution’s scientific ecosystem and will enhances opportunities for students, researchers and staff to engage with a leading global health institution.

With this agreement, EUGLOH and the Institut Pasteur affirm a shared ambition: to contribute, through education and research, to more resilient and equitable health systems, and to equip future generations with the skills and knowledge needed to respond to global health challenges.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Monica Sala, Institut Pasteur

About Institut Pasteur

A non-profit foundation established in 1887 by Louis Pasteur, the Institut Pasteur is a world-class biomedical research center dedicated to studying and combating disease, particularly infectious diseases. Education has been central to its mission since its founding, and this commitment is further reinforced by the current strategic plan Pasteur 2030, which positions education as a key pillar supporting scientific development. As a member of the Pasteur Network, comprising over 30 institutes across five continents and hosting nearly 10 WHO Collaborating Centres, the Institut Pasteur works closely with communities worldwide to advance public health.

Combining cutting-edge research with education and public-health action, the Institut Pasteur aligns closely with EUGLOH’s mission to address global health challenges through interdisciplinary and transnational approaches.
