EUGLOH Partners Achieve Success in 2024 ERC Synergy Grants

EUGLOH partners celebrate success as seven collaborative projects secure prestigious 2024 ERC Synergy Grants with €571 million funding awarded.

Seven Projects with EUGLOH Collaboration Awarded Funding

The European Research Council (ERC) has announced the 2024 recipients of its prestigious Synergy Grants, with €571 million awarded to 57 research teams. These grants support projects tackling complex scientific challenges, and this year, EUGLOH partners achieved significant recognition, through their involvement in seven of the winning projects. The EUGLOH universities involved are Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (3 projects), Lund University (1 project), the University of Hamburg (2 projects), and UiTThe Arctic University of Norway (1 project).

Collaboration Across Borders and Disciplines

The ERC Synergy Grants aim to foster collaboration among top researchers across Europe and beyond, combining diverse expertise to address intricate scientific issues. The European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth, Iliana Ivanova, praised this collaborative approach, emphasising how the grants enable scientific talent to cross geographical and disciplinary boundaries to drive innovative research.

Global Reach and Increased Female Participation

The 2024 grants also highlight the global scope of the ERC’s efforts, with awardees this year including researchers from the United States, Australia, and South Korea, alongside their European counterparts. Notably, nearly 32% of the researchers involved are women — the highest representation since the programme began. Six of the awarded teams consist entirely of female researchers, reflecting progress towards gender equity in European research.

A Testament to EUGLOH’s Commitment to Scientific Excellence

The participation of EUGLOH partners in seven awarded projects underscores the Alliance’s commitment to advancing research excellence in global health and beyond. This success strengthens EUGLOH’s role in fostering innovative research collaborations that extend across Europe, creating valuable opportunities for scientific discovery and impact.
