EUGLOH Sustainability Weeks Highlight the Alliance’s SDG-related Expertise and Initiatives

Sustainability and biodiversity are two key aspects of the European University Alliance for Global Health’s Focus Areas – and the EUGLOH Alliance held a webinar series this autumn showcasing its expertise in them.

Held in four weekly sessions from 24 September to 15 October 2025, the EUGLOH Sustainability Weeks webinar series brought together students, researchers, and staff from across the EUGLOH Alliance to explore four of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It highlighted the sustainability-related expertise already present – and continuing to be developed – within EUGLOH member universities’ institutions and provided a platform for exchange within the EUGLOH community and beyond.

Each of the webinars was dedicated to one SDG and featured speakers with expertise in that area. Aligned with the European Sustainable Development Week, the webinar series was also part of EUGLOH’s larger goal to hold e-conferences dedicated to all 17 SDGs over the course of the project. A total of 10 of these e-conferences on the SDGs has already been held over the last two years.

The Sustainable Development Goals covered in this year’s webinar series included:

SDG 6 Clean Water & Sanitation “Water for All” – Ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for everyone.

SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities & Communities “Resilient Urbanism” – Building inclusive, safe, and sustainable cities for all.

SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption & Production “Responsible Consumption” – Promoting responsible consumption to reduce waste.

SDG 13 – Climate Action “Act on Climate” – Urgent action to combat climate change and protect our planet.

Presented topics ranged from current research on sustainability to reflection on social implications and relevant information for consumers. Multiple speakers also presented existing initiatives – either taking place at their affiliated university or being developed by the Alliance as a whole – that strive to provide sustainability-related information to the EUGLOH community, such as the EUGLOH Sustainability Map.

One particular highlight of the webinar series was the high level of student involvement. Multiple students took on active roles as a moderators and speakers, underscoring the importance of student engagement and action when it comes to building a more sustainable future.

The Sustainable Development Weeks were developed alongside a communication campaign, which included posters in all eight languages of the Alliance and in English to highlight EUGLOH’s commitment to language diversity in Europe.
