EUGLOH Welcomes High-Level EU and French Delegation

European Commission Executive Vice-President Roxana Mînzatu and French Education Minister Élisabeth Borne visited the coordinating university of the European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH), Université Paris-Saclay, last week. The motivation of this visit was to engage in discussions on the future of European Universities Alliances - their long-term investment pathway and their role in achieving a European Degree. EUGLOH was the perfect backdrop for these discussions.

The delegation was warmly received by Camille Galap, President of Université Paris-Saclay, Sylvie Retailleau, UPSaclay’s ambassador and former president of the university, Guillaume Garreta, Head of International Relations, and Emily Helmeid, Secretary-General of EUGLOH and Vice-Chair of FOREU4ALL, among others.

The visit served as a platform to reflect on the broader ambitions of the European Universities Initiative, launched by the European Commission to create transnational alliances that foster academic excellence, innovation, and a sense of European identity. Roxana Mînzatu emphasised the importance of continued support for European University Alliances and the need for strong leadership to ensure that no university is left behind.

“Cooperation is key to European competitiveness”, emphasised Emily Helmeid during the visit while sharing the mission and vision of EUGLOH. She underlined EUGLOH’s deep integration within the European Research and European Education Areas, and its ambition to be a driving force in shaping a European Health Area. The delegation explored the role alliances can play in aligning the four corners of the knowledge square—education, research, innovation, and service to society—within the European policy agenda towards resilience and preparedness.

EUGLOH students Jade Missakian, Arezki Guerda and Ziyana Bharwani also had the opportunity to share their personal journeys with the Alliance. “EUGLOH empowers students to connect, create and lead”, Ziyana said.

EUGLOH is proud to contribute to the success and sustainability of the European Universities Initiative and the FOREU4ALL community of practice, within which the 65 European Alliances are shaping a more connected, attractive, innovative, and competitive Europe.
