Members of the EUGLOH International Student Board (ISB) gathered at Université Paris-Saclay in June for a summit focused on strengthening student representation, refining governance structures, and enhancing student engagement across the Alliance.
The meeting brought together student representatives from EUGLOH member universities to discuss the future direction of the Board and its role within the Alliance. A central outcome of the summit was the clarification of the ISB's mandate, reaffirming its commitment to representing student interests through a diplomatic and apolitical approach centred on higher education and student rights.
To improve the effectiveness of its work, the Board discussed a range of governance reforms, including new meeting structures, formal voting procedures, and attendance requirements aimed at ensuring greater accountability and continuity among representatives.
One of the most significant developments was the advancement of plans for a dedicated Student Coordinator (SCO) position. The proposed full-time role would provide essential administrative support to the ISB, facilitate communication between students and Alliance leadership, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of student participation within EUGLOH.
Throughout the discussions, participants reflected on the diverse contexts of EUGLOH's member universities and the importance of adapting communication approaches to local realities. At the same time, a shared conclusion emerged: meaningful personal connections remain the most effective way to foster student participation and engagement across the Alliance.
“Gatherings like this are important for fostering a sense of community, supporting shared initiatives, and effectively representing the student voice. I look forward to more in-person meetings in the future to further strengthen our partnership,” said Roshanaq Nasir from the Lund University Student Board.
The meeting marked another important step in the continued development of the International Student Board and reinforced its commitment to ensuring that student perspectives remain at the heart of EUGLOH's activities and decision-making processes.
