Strengthening Collaboration Between EUGLOH and Humanitas University

Representatives of the EUGLOH Alliance recently visited the Alliance’s partner Humanitas University in Milan, Italy, for a day of exchange and discussions focused on future collaboration in education, research, innovation, and service to society, in the field of global health. The visit took place on 11 May and provided an important opportunity for EUGLOH members to gain deeper insight into Humanitas University’s academic and research ecosystem and explore areas in which the collaboration between EUGLOH and Humanitas can be further strengthened in the future.

Discussions focused on several strategic areas, including student and staff mobility, co-teaching initiatives, joint research collaborations, innovation and translational medicine projects, and evidence-based decision-making initiatives — creating even more international opportunities for EUGLOH students and staff.

The EUGLOH delegation brought together members of the Coordination Team and Secretariat, representatives of the Executive Board, faculty members from the field of medicine and students from across the Alliance.

Participants visited several key Humanitas facilities, including the university’s 3D Lab and Simulation Lab, providing first-hand insight into the university’s strong integration of education, research and clinical practice.

“The visit to the Simulation Center was especially inspiring, highlighted the importance of immersive learning, interprofessional training, and educational innovation in preparing students and healthcare professionals for real-life clinical complexity,” concluded Sofiane Taleb Assistant Professor at Université Paris-Saclay’s Faculty of Medicine. 

A dedicated session on global health impact stories showcased Humanitas University’s international engagement and societal impact. Topics included global health research priority setting, the global impact of COVID-19, important leadership in evidence-based decision making through a Humanitas WHO collaborating Center and the GRADE Working Group and student experiences in healthcare projects in Africa. Another session introduced the development of a Master’s programme in Health Technology Assessment and Research Methods, developed in collaboration with the University of Porto, and explored opportunities for broader participation within the Alliance.

Humanitas University is an international medical school dedicated to the Life Sciences, with education and training closely integrated with Humanitas Hospital and Humanitas Research Center. Its strong focus on global health and translational medicine makes Humanitas an important core partner within EUGLOH, contributing across several Knowledge Square activities and thematic focus areas.

The visit concluded with reflections on future collaboration opportunities and the shared ambition to continue strengthening connections across the Alliance through joint initiatives, mobility, research, innovation and service to society.
