WERA 2025: Sharing the ABC Learning Design Journey in Brazil
Colleagues from Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität München, Germany, and UiT - The Arctic University of Norway presented their joint work on running workshops using the ABC Learning Design method within EUGLOH. The collaboration between the two EUGLOH members grew out of engagement within the Alliance and has provided a powerful platform for cross-institutional exchange and pedagogical innovation.
The session on ABC Learning Design at the conference in Brazil showcased:
- How the ABC Learning Design method supports structured, creative, and learner-centred course design
- Which learnings have been taken from facilitating ABC workshops across universities with different cultures and priorities
- How the EUGLOH network enabled and strengthened this collaboration, bringing together educators who might never have crossed paths otherwise
- The long-term benefits for EUGLOH, including scalable learning design practices, shared professional development opportunities, and a growing community of educators committed to active learning
The conference highlighted how, by pooling expertise and resources across institutions, universities can develop innovative teaching practices that no single university could achieve alone. The ABC Learning Design initiative is a great example of how EUGLOH fosters collaboration, drives capacity building, and enhances the quality of education across its network. It has empowered teams of teachers across EUGLOH to rapidly co-create curricula through storyboarding the student learning journey and making detailed plans of learning activities. These dynamic workshops have supported teachers in designing new courses, and even joint programmes.
“We will be able to utilise the thoughtful conversations and networking opportunities the WERA conference facilitated. We are excited about the next steps for the ABC Learning Design collaboration and the future of pedagogical innovation within EUGLOH. If you’re interested in ABC Learning Design, international teaching collaborations, or upcoming workshops, feel free to reach out!”, says Ashley Haberman-Lawson from LMU.
