EUGLOH Stories

Prof. Dr. Laura Inhestern from the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf of Universität Hamburg, whose endowed junior professorship is funded by the German foundation Kindness for Kids, gained insights from international colleagues in her field of health services research for rare childhood diseases during a week-long EUGLOH research stay at Lund University. This exchange was financed by a funding programme from the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) that provides German higher education institutions with additional financial support for use in EU-funded consortia such as EUGLOH. She shares her experiences travelling to Lund below.

Lund University, Forum Medicum

My EUGLOH Story:

In Lund, I met with several researchers and clinicians working in the same field as I do. I had arranged a full schedule for myself and contacted some colleagues from Lund in order to gain as many impressions as possible and to be able to exchange research ideas and experiences. Moreover, a colleague from Lund organised a lecture, where I presented my work for the team.

The stay was very inspiring. The exchange with my colleagues on site was both helpful for my future work and exciting in light of the fact that similarities of research projects from my colleagues from Lund and my research group were identified. We discussed new opportunities for cooperation and have already started planning a return visit to Hamburg by a colleague from Lund University. I am also planning to go to Sweden in autumn again.

The insight into everyday working life at Lund was also great. Lund has a new, impressive medical faculty building, the ‘Forum Medicum’, which has open spaces for research groups as well as students and teaching staff to meet. I was also able to get to know the typical second breakfast in Sweden, the ‘fika’, and enjoyed it together with the colleagues from Lund.
