Universities are places of encounter and are seen as spaces for intercultural openness. However, if one takes a closer look at the latter, everyday university life is not free of racism either, be it on an individual, institutional or structural level.
Universities primarily pursue the mission of research and teaching, and recently increasingly that of social engagement, as a so-called third mission. As such, they play an important role in social, cultural and socio-economic development.
It is therefore all the more important to recognize discrimination mechanisms and to identify possible courses of action to dismantle them at universities, for example through legal measures, complaints bodies or other positive measures.
The conference, at which experts, lecturers and students will exchange views on the topic in a joint dialog, is intended to make a positive contribution to dismantling racism at universities.
