Contents

In the module environmental epidemiology, the students will get to know basic concepts, questions and methods in the fields of “environment and health”. The module contains:

Part I

  • relevant and up-to-date topics in environmental epidemiology: air pollutants, noise, weather, climate, green and blue areas, environment & allergies, environment and lung function, gene-environment interactions and methylation as well as burden of disease.
  • methods, which are important in environmental epidemiology: typical statistical models, variable selection and data reduction,

Part II: GIS

  • The students will be introduced in geographic information systems (GIS) and learn how spatial data can be processed, organized, analyzed and presented which plays a central role in environmental epidemiology.

Requirements

The students will be actively involved in most sessions through pair work, group work, etc. Thus, readiness for active engagement in the course is the major prerequisite for participation. Besides, basic knowledge about fundamentals of epidemiology (e.g., study design, bias, confounding) is helpful. Basic knowledge of the Statistic Software R is required.

Certificate

Participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
