The empowerment of women in agriculture is fundamental to achieve gender equality. It is also instrumental for increased household productivity and improved household health and nutrition. Diverse strategies exist to empower women, yet these strategies are difficult to prioritise without reliable and adapted means to measure women’s empowerment.

This webinar will introduce key definitions of empowerment; discuss their relevance in research to support livestock based livelihoods; introduce tools that we use to measure women’s empowerment and changes in livestock; present some examples of their application in the field, and finally critically discuss the implications of such approaches.
